Smoky Mountain Sunrise

Smoky Mountain Sunrise

Donald's images that reflect the Eastern woodlands are perhaps the most prized by collectors. They certainly are among the artist's favorite to create. When viewing this print, one can practically feel the fresh, crisp air and the crunch of snow high in the mountain pass. It is interesting to note that the Indian Nations east of the Mississippi coexisted and respected their shared boundaries. Here the scouts have found a trace of another visitor to the same pass.

Smoky Mountain Sunrise was exhibited at the SWAIA's 1998 Indian Market in Santa Fe, where it won Second Place. This was the first time Donald's paintings have been shown in this prestigious competition. Santa Fe has been the most widely known Indian art event for over 75 years; more than 1200 top artisans participated.
